Although the technique of Shibori dyeing gained fame in Japan during the Edo Period lasting from the 17th-19th centuries, its origin is marked in China. The ancient dyeing technique involves, twisting, folding, and bunching the cloth methodically before dyeing it in indigo. The resulting print gives the fabric a textured, three-dimensional look.
