Teej celebrates the divine bond of love between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The loving vibes of Teej fill the air as soon as Raksha Bandha gets over. Married women welcome the season with merriment, melodies, and dancing on the traditional folk songs. On the eve of Teej, women worship for the long lives of their husbands. The festivities span ovet three days – Hariyali Teej, Kajari Teej, and Hartalika Teej. Women worship the moon dressed in hues of green – a color that signifies life and fertility.

The word ‘Teej’ roughly translates to ‘third’ in English. Kajari Teej, celebrated after three days of Rakhi, is an auspicious day to perform sacred puja of the neem tree with elaborate rituals and traditions. To honor Lord Krishna, women sing devotional Kajari songs.

Hartalika Teej is celebrated after a month of the Hariyali Teej. Women fast for the whole day without food and water (Nirjala Vrat). Goddess Parvati is worshipped to protect their spouse and bless them with a healthy life.
